Take a Deep Breath: Following the US–Iran Memorandum of Understanding – An Alternative Assessment challenges the dominant interpretation of the June 2026 US–Iran Memorandum of Understanding as an Iranian strategic victory and an Israeli defeat. Through a six-dimensional assessment of the post-conflict environment, the study examines the degradation of Iran’s Axis of Resistance, the depth of US–Israel strategic coordination, Iran’s economic and infrastructural fragility, continuing uncertainty surrounding its nuclear programme, the Iranian regime’s domestic legitimacy challenges, and the balance of Israel’s military and operational achievements. The analysis distinguishes between immediate tactical outcomes and longer-term strategic trajectories, arguing that Iran entered negotiations from a position of significant vulnerability despite securing diplomatic and economic concessions. At the same time, Israel retains substantial military leverage, regional partnerships, and freedom of action, although several declared war objectives remain incomplete. The study concludes that the 60-day negotiating period represents a critical strategic window for Israel to shape future arrangements, consolidate military gains through diplomacy, strengthen regional alliances, and preserve credible deterrence while carefully managing its indispensable relationship with the United States.
