Maria Markidou Georgiadou is the Managing Director of Cyprus Seeds since 2018. A non-profit organization that promotes the commercialization of innovative academic research from the Universities and Research Centres on the island. She has more than 25 years of experience in banking (in Merrill Lync, NY and cdb bank in Cyprus). Served as a full-time consultant with Bank of Cyprus for 4 years in matters relating to innovation and entrepreneurship; in this capacity, she initiated and coordinated IDEA, the first accelerator-incubator program in Cyprus, which supports the creation of Cypriot start-ups. Maria has over 25 years of experience with the Cyprus Development Bank, working as Head of International Banking Unit and Head of Business Development & Marketing of the CDB Group. Maria is an experienced EU project evaluator and a partner of the World Economic Forum in Cyprus, responsible for producing its annual Global Competitiveness Report. As a Fulbright scholar, Ms. Markidou holds a BSc degree from Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut, and a Master’s in Economics from the University of Oxford, UK.
