Prof. Dr. Katarina Štrbac

Prof. Dr Katarina Štrbac is a Full Professor at the Union-Nikola Tesla University in Belgrade, where she teaches crisis, emergency, and security management to bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral students. She holds a PhD in Security Studies, Defence and Civil Protection from the University of Belgrade (2006), along with master’s and bachelor’s degrees from the same faculty.
Over a career spanning more than two decades, she combined academic work with senior government roles in Serbia’s Ministry of Defence, including serving as Director of the Directorate for European Integration and Project Management and as Head of the Department for Strategic Analysis and Security Integration at the Institute for Strategic Research. She also served as Special Advisor to the Minister for Human and Minority Rights and Social Dialogue, focusing on gender equality and security.
Her research spans security studies, crisis and emergency management, European integration, asymmetric threats, and human rights, with an extensive record of publications, including monographs and articles in national and international journals. She has lectured at regional security forums in cooperation with the George C. Marshall European Centre for Security Studies and has served on numerous scientific boards and at conferences.
Her work has been recognised with several honours, including the Anđelka Milić Award (2020) for contributions to gender studies, an honorary Doctor Honoris Causa from DTI University in Slovakia (2022), and a Diploma of Merit from the Organisation for Human Rights Defence in Armenia (2024). She is fluent in Serbian and English (C2).
