Dr. Georgios K. Filis
Dr. Georgios K. Filis is Professor of International Relations, Geopolitics & European Affairs in the International Relations Department of Ledra College, Nikosia. He also teaches in the International Baccalaureate Diploma of the IONIOS SCHOOL. He is affiliated and teaches geostrategic issues and energy security in the Hellenic National Defence College and other educational institutions of the Hellenic Armed Forces. He is a member of the Athens-based Institute for Security & Defence Analysis and he is the director of AEGIS Publishing which operates the news portal “www.defence-point.gr”. Dr. Filis is the International Relations Analyst of the TV Station ALPHA and acts also as a scientific & policy advisor of relevant issues & government planning on top political-executive level. Dr. Filis is a Member of the Scientific Committee of the Foundation of the Hellenic Parliament.
His research interests and publications focus on matters of geopolitical theory & analysis, geoeconomics & energy security, while he specializes in the developments on the Black Sea-Straits-Aegean-Eastern Mediterranean maritime axis and its broader space. His views, analyses and articles are consistently presented on major Greek, Cypriot and international media and news-outlets.
Dr. Filis holds a Ph.D. (2010) in International Relations focusing in the systemic geopolitical analysis of the quadrangle Greece-Turkey-Russia-West from Durham University (UK), while he holds a Masters Degree (2003) in International Studies from the same University and a Bachelors Degree (2002) in Economics from The American College of Greece. He graduated from Athens College in 1994.
He is married to Ms. Krystallia Apostolou M.Sc. Psychologist-Child Psychologist and they have a son (11 years old)
