Zenonas Tziarras holds a PhD in Politics and International Studies from the University of Warwick, UK where he taught World Politics. His doctoral thesis, “Turkish Foreign Policy towards the Middle East under the AKP: a Neoclassical Realist Account,” is the first comprehensive neoclassical realist analysis of contemporary Turkish foreign policy. He holds a BA in Mediterranean Studies & International Relations (Aegean University, Greece) and a MA in International Relation & Strategic Studies (University of Birmingham, UK). In addition, he received specialized training in International Security (University of Delhi, India), in Leadership and Conflict Resolution (Koç University, Turkey), and has a certificate in Conflict Management & Mediation Skills (Northern Ireland Open College Network).
He is co-editor of The Globalized World Post, member of the editorial board for New Middle Eastern Studies and has been an analyst and researcher for a number of think tanks and research projects in Cyprus and abroad, such as Strategy International, Diplomatic Academy (University of Nicosia), PRIO Cyprus Center, SeeD, Berghof Foundation, Strategic Outlook, etc. He taught Greek-Turkish Relations, Strategy & War, and Global Security in the Department of Social & Political Sciences at the University of Cyprus while, for two years, he worked as Associate Lecturer in Security & Diplomacy Studies for the MA in Security & Diplomacy Studies and the LLM in the School of Law of UCLan Cyprus, designing and teaching modules around the themes of security studies, conflict and crisis management, and regional geopolitics.
He published two books [In Greek]: Republic of Cyprus: Dimensions of Foreign Policy (co-edited with Marios Efthymiopoulos) and Turkey in the Eastern Mediterranean: Ideological Aspects of Foreign Policy (co-authored with Nikos Moudouros). His research has been also published in such academic (and semi-academic) journals as Mediterranean Politics, Journal of Applied Security Research, Asian Politics & Policy, Turkish Policy Quarterly, Hellenic Studies, The National Interest, Foreign Affairs Hellenic Edition while he also contributed chapters to a number of collective volumes [In Greek & English].
His current work in progress includes two collective volumes (on Turkish foreign policy and Cyprus foreign policy respectively) and more than five academic papers. Zenonas is a Post-Doctoral Researcher in the Department of Social & Political Sciences at the University of Cyprus working on International Relations theory and Turkish foreign policy under the AKP; a freelance analyst and media commentator on Eastern Mediterranean & Middle East geopolitics.
